School of Lyon – School of Paris – Sanzisme or “New Figuration of the School of Lyon”.
Born on July 22, 1922 in St Marcellin (Isère). COTTAVOZ began painting at the age of 14, he enrolled at the Beaux-Arts in Lyon and then forced to spend two years at the STO in Austria (Labor Department compulsory during the Second World War). After the war, he followed the courses of “La Grande Chaumière” in Paris and met Garbell in Mirmande. In 1949, he obtained a scholarship to the National Prize of Painting followed by a prize at the Biennale of Menton in 1950. Painter of the color and the material, it expresses itself with the knife to translate its perception of reality, A light coming from the inside of the canvas. He produced many lithographs in black and color at Ateliers Mourlot. He received the first prize of the Fondation Fénéon in 1953 and signed his first contract with the Galerie Art Vivant in Paris. There followed an exclusivity with the gallery Kriegel in 1962, then with Galerie TAMENAGA in Paris and in Japan. He died in his house in Vallauris on 8 July 2012.
